Charitable Peachy: Goods for Good

From our friends at Goods for Good:

Our Mission
Goods for Good matches excess goods from the United States with the needs of orphans and vulnerable children in the developing world. Through partnerships between U.S. companies and community organizations abroad, we provide surplus goods to thousands of at-risk children. To date, we have shipped and distributed essential materials to over 510,000 children in Malawi, Liberia and Haiti, while at the same time reducing waste at home.

Our Model
Goods for Good is about more than just delivering goods. Through extensive, on-the-ground research, we have developed a sustainable model that addresses the immediate and long-term needs of vulnerable children while enabling communities to become independent in the future. We respond to our partners' needs and provide them with the goods, knowledge and skills to aid in their development.

  • In the United States- Goods for Good relies on corporate partners to make progress out of excess. With the help of companies such as Pfizer, Star Garments and Johnson & Johnson, we have put over 120 tons of children's clothing, fabric, school supplies and health and hygiene products into the hands of the people who need them.
  • Abroad- Goods for Good builds on the success of motivated yet under-resourced community organizations. Our method utilizes local knowledge to ensure the most efficient and effective use of our resources. Whether with a community-based organization, public school or orphanage, we work together with community members to help them better serve the children in their care. Through these partnerships, we are able to address the physical, educational and emotional needs of these children and improve the long-term sustainability of their communities.

Our Strengths

  • Proven Results – Monitoring and evaluation are an integral part of Goods for Good’s work. Schools receiving educational supplies have reported a 30% increase in attendance and nursery schools receiving anti-bacterial soap have witnessed a near disappearance of food-borne digestive tract disease.
  • Sustainable Approach – Goods for Good supports established, local partners in their efforts to reach both the immediate and long-term goals of the community.
  • Efficient Methods – Goods for Good delivers items at a cost of 5 cents for every U.S. dollar worth of goods and consistently has low overhead costs.

Guaranteed Delivery – Goods for Good limits the potential for misuse by working with reputable partner organizations and tracking all goods to their intended recipients.
  • Green Alternative – Goods for Good has provided over 42 U.S. companies and organizations with a green alternative to disposing of surplus materials.

Our Future
Vast quantities of valuable excess goods go to waste every day, while vulnerable children in developing countries go without. In the coming years, Goods for Good will continue to link this surplus with disadvantaged children, ensuring that a lack of basic materials is not a barrier to their physical, educational and emotional development. Your browser may not support display of this image. Your browser may not support display of this image.
