Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy By Jane O’Connor Pictures by Robin Preiss Glasser

Jane O’Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser, the dynamic national bestselling team behind Fancy Nancy, which spent over 52 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list and was named one of the best books of the last five years by Book Sense, have put together another sparkly tale, FANCY NANCY AND THE POSH PUPPY.

Fancy Nancy is back! When she and her family decides to get a dog, she’s certain she can be fancier than ever.  After all, a papillon—a small, delicate, fluffy dog—is the ultimate accessory.  But her family wants a large, plain dog.  How unglamorous!  In FANCY NANCY AND THE POSH PUPPY, Nancy discovers that real fanciness does not depend simply on appearance, but more on a genuine joie de vivre, which is a fancy phrase for having lots of fun.   We really love what this Fancy Nancy series does for the Petite Peachy vocabulary.  If they start this young, by the time they reach the verbal section of the SAT hopefully it will be a breeze!

With Fancy Nancy’s trademark humor and warmth, Robin Preiss Glasser brings Nancy back-to-life in a fancy world with bright color and trademark detail, while Jane O’Connor’s plucky prose shows that beneath the pink dog-leash and fluff lies a thoughtful and important message.

Here is what the fabulous Petite Peachy Panel thought:

Fancy Nancy is at it again.  In yet another heartwarming story, Nancy’s family gets ready to welcome a new puppy into their home.  Nancy, of course, has her heart set on a puppy that’s more of the trophy kind, the kind you carry in a handbag and decorate with bows.  And once again, Nancy finds herself in a quandary, as her parents have their eye on a more traditional pet, the kind of dog that will run around the yard and fetch.  Oh, what’s a girl to do?!  In usual Nancy style, she devises a plan to get her parents to see it her way. And, in usual Nancy O’Connor fashion, the author hits a home run with the story’s resolution and message.  As with the other books in the series, Posh Puppy is amusing and endearing in getting its point across.  And the illustrations themselves are conversation-worthy! Fancy Nancy is a delightful little girl with a passion for the whimsical.  Whimsical – that’s fancy for unusual!

As if it could not get better than the original and  Bonjour Butterfly, Jane O’Connor continues the excitement with Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy. Because you can never have enough Fancy Nancy! The lesson learned in this story is that appearances are not everything. Fancy Nancy is so excited when she learns of her families decision to get a dog. Well Fancy Nancy wants the fanciest of dogs possible and falls in love with a papilion. It could not be fancier. But when she discovers all the additional work needed to take care of a fancy dog, Fancy Nancy knows her limits. Fancy Nancy ends of with a better fit and learns that fancy is not always on the outside. All in all, Fancy Nancy delights and delivers. Your child will be requesting (that the fancy way of saying asking) you to read Fancy Nancy all the time and you will happily oblige.
