NIGHTLIGHT: New York Times Talks with Alec Baldwin is a Hit Says Peachy Deegan and Whom You Know
This past Thursday night, Whom You Know was lucky enough to attend "Live With Alec Baldwin" by the New York Times. Welcome Remarks were by Carol Day, and Janet Maslin interviewed Baldwin throughout the evening in a conversational manner. Maslin has been with the Times for nearly the entire lifetime of Peachy Deegan, since 1977, and has been a book critic since 2000.
Some fun facts about Alec that we did not know prior to this soiree:
*1979 was the year Alec moved to New York City
*He was a busboy at Studio 54 (and had some interesting experiences there!)
*He has an ancestor on the Mayflower (different one from Peachy) but didn't know this until he was older. Had he known sooner, Alec may have played his cards differently
*His ex had a dog that was half wolf
*One thing he likes about Manhattan is that at 8pm you can imagine all of the curtains going up with some of the greatest shows and performers in the world right here
Baldwin was upbeat, personable and entertaining throughout the evening and did acknowledge that he may have political ambitions. One of his strongest beliefs is he is pro energy independence, we understand. Of course, right now he is an actor....the subway scene cracked us up that was shown after he couldn't get a taxi and was in search of the 4 train from his current show. It is much funnier watched than it is explained by Peachy...Recent movies he applauds include "Boys Don't Cry" and "Brokeback Mountain" as Baldwin believes becoming someone else on screen can be a very difficult thing to do....he mentioned he thinks acting took a turn around 1980 and that John Travolta is the last actor of an era that has passed where stars and their acting was what sold a movie.
