READ THIS: Love Poems by Pablo Neruda, Nobel Laureate - Buy it at Borders!

Now that we've got on our night cream, it is time for a bedtime story.  We are pleased to kick off our Valentine's Day coverage with the fabulous selection offered by Borders!

Love Poems, by Pablo Neruda (1904-1973) comes in Paperback and originally was published in Spanish. Lucky for Peachy Deegan, it is translated into English in these 96 pages! (She took French in school of course, after childhood lessons by French Canadian hockey players...)  Neruda, who was from Chile, began publishing poetry in 1920, and then became a diplomat and in later years, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature.  If you are not familiar with his work, after you read this you will see why.

We believe this is our first book of poetry we reviewed, and we do recommend it.  We are not big fans of poetry generally, but in the spirit of Valentine's Day, it is perfect.  Mostly written on the isle of Capri, it will make romantics even of the least romantic among us.  We recommend reading it with the one you love, eating chocolate and drinking Champagne of course!  (those recommendations to follow...)  Many poems here are to be enjoyed in private.  They are well-written, concise and have a depth in them that many don't reach in everyday life.  It is the time of year to reach that level!

We particularly like "Your Feet," because of where they bring you to; we like "Your Laughter" even more because if you are not laughing while in love, what is the point!  Love is meant to be joyful and uplifting, of course!  The author will not be denied her laughter...although Neruda has passed, these poems will endure and do not let this Valentine's Day pass without picking up a copy to enjoy for yourself-we recommend swinging by Borders in person or online to get yours!
