Round Two:
So six weeks had passed, and it was time for my second session for laser hair removal at the wonderful Advanced Derma Laser. Since the first appointment, I had minimal hair growth. I mean almost nothing! I did not even need to shave once and more importantly not a single in grown hair showed itself and you know that is not the case with waxing. The owner Jennifer meets me at the elevator and I could not have a bigger smile on my face. The results so far have reached far above my expectations and this next session means I will be closer to never having to deal with unwanted body hair again. The thought of not shaving or waxing again really could not be more exciting to me.
Jennifer and I discuss the (what I think are amazing) results and she asks if I have any questions. Out of curiosity, I ask why there are no ingrown hairs with this treatment. She explains that the laser does not cause your pores to open wide like wax does, so that when the hair tries to get back out the pore does not close around it. Genius. Jennifer tells me that I am a good candidate because I have dark coarse hair. Hair color and skin type are the key factors that influence the success of laser hair removal. It's most successful on people with dark hair (brown or black) and light skin. However, it can also be used safely on people with darker skin types and Jennifer has several different lasers to work on different skin tones. What I love is that Jennifer is really honest with her clients. She will turn you away if she knows it will not work on you as laser hair removal does not work for white, blonde, light brown or light red hair.
Well it’s time to get this show on the road. I put on my goggles and lift my arms above my head. Jennifer wipes my underarms down with just water not alcohol as I had originally thought from last time. I put on my goggles. You wear goggles to prevent accidental exposure of your eyes to laser light. When the laser is activated, you feel a slight stinging sensation. However, this second session the stinging was much slighter then the first time. I had heard that you can use a topical local anesthetic before the procedure to reduce discomfort and Jennifer tells me that you can purchase that on site. To be honest after this session, I really did not feel the need. But if you want it, it is available.
How long the procedure takes depends on the area of the body involved. My armpits took not even five minutes this time and my bikini was much shorter than the first time. Each session moving forward should be shorter and less uncomfortable. Can’t beat that. Expect to undergo six to eight treatments spaced six to eight weeks apart to achieve good reduction of hair and slowing of hair regrowth. Then, you will likely undergo periodic maintenance treatments.
Another highly successful experience thanks to Jennifer and her team at Advanced Derma Laser. My suggestion go for her newly added St. Barth’s style for your bikini.
