COLETTE UNVEILS NEW WORKS AND MULTI MEDIA: VIDEOS & WINDOWS AT destination NY
PRIVATE RECEPTION FEBRUARY 8, 2010 - 6 to 8pm
destination - 32-36 Little West 12th Street (just west of 9th Ave)
WHAT
A wine reception to view the new works by Colette.
Colette will design the windows around the famous Colette mannequin that has been displayed in the Guggenheim Museum. “The Last Days of Pearl Street," A short-film by Colette about the demolition of Maison Lumiére, her legendary downtown Manhattan atelier will be shown along with paintings and images relating to the destruction.Colette the artist and darling of the downtown art scene, friend to Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons and Richard Prince among many, has had success after success in Europe and Asia. Now she returns to exhibitions in New York City with a one, two punch. We at Whom You Know were pleased as punch to meet Colette and we look forward to featuring her more!
First, in February, Colette unveils a new stage in her amazing career. Known for her baroque aesthetic, she will exhibit her metaphysical portraits of friends and colleagues including Bill Murray, Susan Sarandon, Katharina Otto Bernstein at the ubber hip downtown fashion and Art Space destination NY: 32-36 Little West 12th Street. This is in keeping with Colette’s tradition of exhibiting art in unexpected places.
Second, in April, she will have a selective history exhibition (1970’-‘til now) at the Pavel Zoubok Gallery, Chelsea, 533 West 23rd Street, New York, NY. You will see some of the works that brought her so much attention and attracted hordes of artists, politicians and socialites to her legendary atelier at 213 Pearl Street.
You may remember 213 Pearl Street was New York’s first World trade center. Built in 1832-32, the landmark building was condemned by the City and Colette’s historic atelier destroyed. It saddens us when we hear that such buildings are not preserved and we hope every effort will be made in the future in Manhattan to keep important parts of history. A short video Colette made of the destruction of the Pearl Street landmark will be screened at destination NY. Among the guests Peachy Deegan enjoyed meeting included:
Julie Sharbutt
Mia Morgan
Jake Bright
David Noh
James Horner
Roy Kean
