Whom You Know Kicks Off Our Coverage of Fiber Gourmet
Whom You Know is always on the lookout for ways to improve your life, and although Peachy is nowhere near a nutritionist (She thinks the four major food groups are chocolate from Godiva, pizza from Mimi's, crabcakes from Legal Sea Foods and Veuve Clicquot....they aren't?) on a daily basis she really does try to be balanced and usually is. Face it, we all need fiber. Why not get it through macaroni and cheese? We didn't know we could do that until we met Fiber Gourmet.
FiberGourmet is a food technology company dedicated to creating reduced-calorie, high-fiber products that taste good and are good for you. Their unique technology allows them to create foods with literally HALF the calories that look and taste just like their full-calorie counterparts.
This sounded great to us.
Their parent company, Food Industry Technology (FIT) has produced specialty ingredients to serve the ever-changing needs of the food industry since 1987. Several years ago they started working on baking mixes which would allow companies to give their customers low-calorie alternatives to their usual wares. After over 2,500 trial-and-error experiments, they developed some technical breakthroughs which allowed them to create an entire line of low-calorie foods, including such favorites as pasta, cookies, crackers, cakes, and much more.
The first commercial launch of this product came in 2007, with FiberGourmet Light Pasta. Since then they've expanded the pasta line to more shapes and styles and added the well-received mac & cheese dinner. In 2009 they launched their long-awaited Light Cracker line, to an overwhelmingly positive response. 2010 should see the launch of light microwave cake mixes and pasta lunches, as well as cookies.
The fabulous Peachy's Pantry Panel tried the Gourmet Mac and Cheese.
About the product:
The panel thought:
Mac and cheese is one of my favorite comfort foods of all time, so I'm thrilled to find that the healthy, high-fiber version from Fiber Gourmet, Mac-mmm-Cheese, is just as delicious as it is healthy. The taste and texture is wonderfully creamy and cheesy while imparting 38% fewer calories. Fiber Gourmet's version does not contain any artificial colors or flavors, the taste is actually quite simple but very tasty, as mac and cheese is meant to be. Preparation is extremely simple too, just mix in a little 2% milk and you have yourself a hearty, satisfying and delicious mac-and-cheese that's hard to turn down seconds of.
Fiber Gourmet, Mac-mmm-Cheese – cooked al dente is OH so creamy! The first and main ingredient it’s made with is durum semonlina flour, and then modified wheat starch creating this nutritionally good product. Fiber Gourmet, Mac-mmm-Cheese has 1/3 less carbs than regular mac & cheese. Per serving it only has 1 gram of fat while the dietary fiber is 18%. The daily value of cholesterol is 0% while the sodium content is only 27%. Delicious and wholesome!

Not being born and bred in the United States, I never got into Mac & Cheese. Being a health nut tells me to steer clear...until I tried this. Packed with fiber. It wasn't salty, it had a great cheesy flavor. The portion size was very filling. Less fat, great taste will have you coming back for more, more, more!
Terrific product, no saturated fats, no trans fats and no cholesterol, not typical of mac and cheese. This low calorie and high fiber dinner took minutes to prepare. Bring water to a boil, add the pasta, stir and drain. Add the convenient cheese sauce packet and you are done. What cold be easier than that? Kids will be eating mac & cheese in no time with Fiber Gourmet's delicious "Mac-mmm-Cheese."
Thanks to Fiber Gourmet, I no longer have to feel guilty about getting my weekly fix of mac & cheese. Since I started Weight Watchers, I’ve tried doctoring up other national brands by skipping the butter and preparing with lower fat milk, and I was left feeling deprived. Now, Fiber Gourmet’s Mac-mmm-Cheese satisfies my craving at only 3 points per serving. Unbelievable taste – and so tempting to eat the whole box!
