The gallery is pleased to exhibit a selection of photographs by members of The Photo League (1936-1951) and The New York School (1936-1963). These groups produced some of the most historically significant and compelling images of New York City and have had an untold influence over a generation of photographers. Members being exhibited at AIPAD include: Ted Croner, Bruce Davidson, Arnold Eagle, Eliot Eliosfon, Louis Faurer, Consuelo Kanaga, William Klein, Arthur Leipzig, Saul Leiter, Rebecca Lepkoff, Leon Levinstein, Sol Libsohn, Jerome Liebling, Rae Russel, Louis Stettner, Dan Weiner, and Bill Witt.
In addition the gallery will be presenting works by Frank Gohlke, Edward Steichen, & Miroslav Tichy.
Lisa Hostelter, curator of photography at the Milwaukee Art Museum will host a panel discussion on the importance of street photography in American art, Saturday March 20th at 2pm. Saul Leiter is a featured member of the panel.
On Sunday March 21, at 12 noon, AIPAD will host the discussion "A Conversation with Members of the Photo League". Arthur Leipzig, Rebecca Lepkoff, and Jerome Liebling, among others, will participate in the discussion. |
