READ THIS: The 10 Laws of Enduring Success by Maria Bartiromo with Catherine Whitney

We love Maria Bartiromo!  Doesn't everyone?  Peachy Deegan has heard Maria speak twice, and she is always impressive to hear and of course, she always has something to say.  It is her job to have something to say!
However, in contrast to many that hit the airwaves, Maria consistently has something VALUABLE to say, and she says this and more in her new book, The 10 Laws of Enduring Success.

From having a birthday of September 11th (growing up, it was an emergency to attend her birthday parties!) to throwing a pitch on opening day in Yankee Stadium, you will be introduced to the human Maria who is delightful.  You'll wish you knew her firsthand.

This book was founded on the premise of if everything else went away, would [you] still be a success?  To answer that, Bartiromo defines ten laws and principles to examine to measure one's success.  We won't list them out for you, because we encourage you to get the book for yourself.  We will highlight some of our favorite parts however, to convince you to buy the book.

Keys to success we would agree with Maria on (among others!) include being proactive and being yourself.  Be tenacious; go get it.  There IS only one you.  The book is interspersed with valuable quotes from those that Maria has interviewed or knows otherwise, and also has insights into businesses that do the right thing like Google: they let the sunshine in and keep their people happy. Don't always be conventional, be adaptable.  Find out why investment bankers are the Geishas of the world.  Be a bazooka person!  (And read the book to understand what we mean.)
Whom You Know highly recommends The 10 Laws of Enduring Success by Maria Bartiromo!
And to the trader that told her to "run along," we suggest HE RUN ALONG to get his copy!  As she is a class act, we think she'll even sign it for him.

In her exciting new book, The 10 Laws of Enduring Success (Crown Business, March 30, 2010), Maria Bartiromo offers a candid look at her life and career, sharing what she learned from her close-knit family and her upbringing, along with insight gained from pivotal moments in her professional life. She synthesizes this wisdom with important lessons she's learned interacting daily with some of the most famous and powerful figures in the world, from Jack Welch and Garry Kasparov to Dmitry Medvedev and Joe Torre. She set a formidable goal: a book that looks at success through the lens of the extraordinary times we are living through, aiming to come up with the most important attributes of true success -- and to also expose the trappings. Among other things, Bartiromo reveals why humility, not hubris, laughing at yourself, and not wasting time on outrage are essential.

With her fine-tuned journalistic eye, Bartiromo looks at the intangibles that can’t be measured or counted and the qualities that aren’t reflected in a title or on a business card. What does she find? Be Darwinian: Today we're facing a situation scarcely imaginable five years ago. The people who survive and grow will be those who can evolve. She also talks about comebacks (think Michael Milken), how everyone fails at some point (herself included), and how accountability is key (example: David Neeleman's apology to Jet Blue passengers for bad decisions that left them on the runway for hours). She also talks about the importance of taking a breather and how sometimes people's identities become so wrapped up in their jobs or status that they can't handle come-downs, especially being laid off. If you don't have a foundation of achievement and values, she counsels, you'll get swept away with the tide.

The 10 Laws of Enduring Success includes many frank insights from Bartiromo's personal experience. For example, how working at OTB during college helped prepare her for the floor of the NYSE or how overbooking her schedule led to an unprepared interview with Charlie Rose. She explores the origins of work ethic (her family), and how a chance meeting in the ladies room with a mentor motivated her to try just that much harder. These lively anecdotes provide inspiration and set the stage for very practical advice on how to achieve success and fulfillment at work and in life. “You can't always control the way you are judged by others,” she writes, “but you can live your life in such a way that you can look at yourself in the mirror and feel content.”

The Ten Laws of Enduring Success will provide readers with an essential compass to help navigate tough times -- not just as one-off achievements, but as a durable, lifelong pursuit. She offers the insights and motivation we need to propel ourselves to the next level. It is a must-read for anyone who wants to succeed.
