Top it Off: Hot House Flowers of the New Decade: First Milliners Guild Fashion Show Fall 2010
From our friends at the Milliners Guild:
Tents went up in Bryant Park for the last time for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.Editors arranged their schedules, designers put last minute touches on their collections, buyers sharpened their pencils, and the public awaited with bated breath for the new direction from the Land of Mode.
Fashion Week in New York City is when all the fans, followers, and fanatics of the garment industry come out in full force. Press coverage adds to the excitement, as New York City style is the first on the international roster of runway shows. To be here is to feel the energy everywhere. Even the cab drivers are happy.
The Milliners Guild of New York City dove into Fashion Week headfirst, no pun intended. We accepted the generous invitation of the Grace Hotel to mount a show, as a group. For the first time, New York had hats that filled the Fashion Week bill. Our theme was "Hothouse Flowers for the New Decade", Fall 2010, and provided a glimpse into the creative minds of 12 of the members of the Guild.
Our venue, the Room-mate Hotel named Grace, provided a triple level viewing area , (and a double layer bar). The hotel itself has a unique feature, with a swimming pool in it's foyer. As the bleachers filled around the pool, a multi-designer slide show provided arriving guests with visual stimulation.
Planned as a runway show, the models walked the pool deck, the lounge , and the mezzanine. The press preferred the pool (that's where WWD hung) area, but all three levels were filled to capacity. Vogue India was on the Mezz, enjoying the view with several other editors. Indeed, we had to turn people away, because of the turnout.
As our first runway show, our first group show, and our first participation in Fashion Week, we salute our members, and cheer bigtime . We have the hats, and the world wants to see them. We're looking forward to September Fashion Week uptown, at Lincoln center, in Damrosch Park, for Spring 2011, so milliners: rev those motors.
