Peachy at The Met: Big Bambu on the Roof
We are so excited about the roof opening at the Met, this year we had a countdown meter. Every year we love to go to the top, sip champagne and watch the sun set, no matter what the exhibit is. Some years we love the exhibit, some other years, not so much. Peachy Deegan's favorite exhibit was many years ago when she remembers a big piece of blueberry pie being a focus, and Jeff Koons was a close second; she loved the balloon dog.
After a close look, this year's Big Bambu, designed by twins, reminds us of a treehouse. We got a feeling of being in the Tiki Room of Disney World combined with Swiss Family Robinson...5,000 bamboo poles from Georgia and South Carolina compose this gigantic structure. Our original coverage:
A burst of creativity, Big Bambu leaves the observer wondering if these twins loved Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs when they were growing up! There is not one focal point: this is a maze of bamboo that must have been quite a feat to assemble.
Tickets for the special guided tours of the elevated pathways are free with Museum admission and will be available daily on a first-come, first-served basis during Museum public hours. Information may be found at www.metmuseum.org/special/bigbambu.
