READ THIS: Seeing Central Park: The Official Guide to the World’s Greatest Urban Park By Sara Cedar Miller

Whether you read Whom You Know from Manhattan or in another part of the world, we have found a book that will make you feel like you are in one of our great wonders, Central Park.  For more than 150 years, Central Park has been the centerpiece of New York City, drawing more than twenty five million visitors each year. Seeing Central Park: The Official Guide to the World’s Greatest Urban Park [Abrams, May 2009, 110 full-color illustrations, 192 pages, $19.95 US, $21.95 CAN], by Sara Cedar Miller, the official historian and photographer of the Central Park Conservancy, takes readers through America’s most popular and celebrated park, where natural and man-made features are interwoven into a spectacular work of public art.

The photography in this book is amazing.  The views that Miller captures are familiar to us that know the park, but they continually amaze everyone.  The fact that the park is man made and that it does boast the first "subways" are interesting details to learn, so this is much more than just a picture book. It is a coffee table book that is beautiful yet as dense as an encyclopedia in terms of information.
We love the way it is geographically organized, and even if you think you know everything about the park, we bet you can learn something in these 191 pages.  Peachy Deegan THOUGHT she knew quite a bit but even she found some interesting tidbits she did not know before.  Whom You Know highly recommends Seeing Central Park, and we also recommend doing a tour this summer for yourself with the book as a guide.  Now that the good weather is finally with us you might even want to start this week!  We encourage you to do so.

Combining superb research and writing with breathtaking photographs, Seeing Central Park is not only a gorgeous gift book, but also a guide through every significant design feature in the park, from the largest, such as the Reservoir and Belvedere Castle, to the smallest, such as the intricate carvings in the stonework surrounding Bethesda Terrace. Seeing Central Park also reveals many newly renovated and restored features such as Bow Bridge, which has made appearances in countless films. The book’s attractive package, compact size, and handy map of the park on its inside jacket make this book an invaluable tool for anyone looking to explore this beautiful oasis in the heart of the city.

From Sheep Meadow and the Shakespeare Garden to Harlem Meer and Strawberry Fields, Seeing Central Park reveals that the park is not only a paragon of Victorian landscape design, but also one of the most beautiful places to relax and play in a city constantly on the move.
