2008 COLUMBIA VALLEY RIESLING by Black Box Wines Recommended by Whom You Know
BLACK BOX WINES, which introduced America’s first super premium boxed wine in January 2003, offers consumers high-end wines at everyday prices. Whom You Know recently learned of this brand and we think this line is perfect for your summer outings at the beach, by the pool, and anywhere you want to go this summer. From an excursion out east to simply going to Central Park, Black Box wine is a great choice for taste and convenience. The design is smart, the spigot does not leak, and you don't have to worry about glass breaking. Best of all for those of us in Manhattan, the box is a great way to utilize space! One box is the equivalent of four bottles. And of course, the most important aspect is that they produce high-quality, super premium boxed wine from premier wine-growing regions.
We began with the Cabernet Sauvignon, which is one of Peachy's most favorite types of wine, and we highly recommended it:
We next tried the Chardonnay:
After that, the Malbec was reviewed:
However, of all of the varieties we tried, we think the best one for summer is the 2008 COLUMBIA VALLEY RIESLING. The
inaugural release from Columbia Valley showcases why America's premiere cool climate region is perfectly suited to Riesling. Patriotic Peachy loves wines from the USA, especially with notes of peach! This wine has aromas of apricot, peach, green apple, honey and vanilla. The palate explodes with off-dry sweetness and flavors of tangerine and apples and finishes with lovely balanced acidity. Columbia Valley Riesling pairs well with Thai cuisine like chicken satay as well as grilled halibut. It is excellent with most any seafood and the clean, fresh, crisp taste of the 2008 Columbia Valley Riesling will complement lobster especially well. It is light enough to serve at a picnic during the day in the heat, and it will be refreshing! Of course, we recommend you chill it first.

Years ago while traveling in Europe, Black Box founder Ryan Sproule was amazed at how many Europeans drank premium-quality box wines. They favored freshness, value and convenience over tradition. By forgoing expensive bottles in favor of bag-in-a-box packaging, European vintners were providing their customers with better wines at better prices.
When Ryan returned to the U.S., he was surprised there were no high-end box wines available. He decided to rectify the situation by establishing Black Box. In 2003, Black Box became the first U.S. vintner to offer super-premium, appellation-specific, vintage-dated wines in a box – wines whose last sip is reliably as good as the first.
Today, they’re proud to offer a full range of high end box wines crafted from grapes grown in the world’s best winegrowing regions.
