In Spring 2010 Cole Haan launched Cole Haan FLX, a collection of men’s and women’s footwear and accessories that have been re-thought, re-worked, and re-imagined to address the function and style demands of the modern lifestyle. In collaboration with Nike, Cole Haan has applied new solutions in the areas of lightweight, flexibility, comfort and versatility to a fusion of sport and dress casual silhouettes.
Sixteen distinct footwear styles incorporate supple Cole Haan leathers into seamless uppers with ventilated Nike DiamondFLX inspired sole units. But it’s the less obvious design details in Cole Haan FLX that truly bring new thinking to sport casual footwear. Stretch laces, elastic at the heel and a single rear zipper on a gladiator sandal facilitate easy-on-and-off at the airport or after a workout at the gym. Unlined construction means lighter weight, enhanced breathability and increased flexibility. The footbed of the women’s sandal can even be removed and flipped over to reveal a different color or look.

Many of the features take cues from the world of sport. Nike DiamondFLX inspired outsoles utilize technology from Nike cross trainers to allow the foot to move in a more natural motion, providing comfort and flexibility with zero break-in time. Ports in the outsole facilitate air flow through the shoe, which can help keep the foot dry over the course of a multi-day business trip. Select silhouettes also include moisture management membranes to protect against rain-soaked commutes, yet still allow vapor from the inside to escape for cooling.

The accessories collection offers a range of options for the commuter, weekender, or frequent traveler. The men’s backpack borrows design details found in Nike’s outdoor product like seam-sealed zippers for protection and performance fabrics in the areas where the pack interfaces with the body to wick away moisture. Padded pockets ensure a protected space to carry a computer, while soft interior pockets allow for a scratch-free environment in which to store items such as a watch or cell phone.

The women’s multi-purpose tote includes straps with D rings which externally cinch down a yoga mat or beach towel, as well as several easy access external pockets and a main compartment with a magnetic closure. It also includes a packable, reusable shopping tote inside.
