P.S. Art 2010 Exhibition at Metropolitan Museum Juried Display of Art by NYC Public School Students on View

Exceptional works of art by 70 New York City public school students, ages four through 20, will be displayed in the Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for two months this summer through P.S. Art, a collaborative program between the New York City Department of Education and Studio in a School Association, Inc. The juried exhibition P.S. Art 2010: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of NYC Kids will open for special viewing by the public beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, for participants in the Museum Mile Festival, and will remain on view through August 8.
Caroline Kennedy, vice-chair of The Fund for Public Schools, and Agnes Gund, founder of Studio in a School, will address students, parents, and teachers at a private ceremony prior to the opening.
Discussing the Museum's participation in the project for the third consecutive year, Thomas P. Campbell, Director of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, noted:  "We are very pleased to play a role in bringing student achievement into public view through P.S. Art 2010 and supporting the continuity of artistic creativity, from the earliest objects in our own collections to works produced today, such as those now on view by these young New York City public school students."
Peggy Fogelman, the Museum's Frederick P. and Sandra P. Rose Chairman of Education, added: "We are delighted to provide free admission passes to these young artists for multiple visits over the run of the exhibition. The works in our collection have provided artists with inspiration for nearly a century and a half, and we hope they will similarly inspire the students of the P.S. Art competition."
The P.S. Art competition fully integrates all public school students in pre-K through the 12th grade. The works in this year's exhibition were made by young artists with a broad spectrum of life experience: students having special needs or attending GED classes are represented, as are those enrolled in advanced placement art classes. The exhibition shows how student creativity, artistic ability, and subject matter evolve in the journey from childhood to adulthood.
The works in the P.S. Art 2010 exhibition were selected from some 800 submissions citywide.
