Champagne Wishes: Whom You Know Recommends the 2009 Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc~! A lovely white for summer from St. Helena, Napa Valley
The heat has been on in Manhattan at record setting temperatures, and Peachy Deegan has been looking high and low for the perfect wine to imbibe in the heat that will leave you refreshed, not dehydrated. We have found a winner with the Sauvignon Blanc from Spottswoode! We are still on a patriotic kick from the 4th of July and we love it when we find American products to endorse. This is the second selection from this brand we have embraced. As you may remember, this brand was recommended to us in Anna Getty's book, which we have also recommended: http://www.whomyouknow.com/2010/05/read-this-anna-gettys-easy-green.html
Currently available from Spottswoode Estate Vineyards to cool you off in Manhattan is the 2009 Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc ($36) which carries a Napa Valley appellation and is available in limited supply in fine wine shops and restaurants as well as directly from the winery at www.spottswoode.com. This wine has true clarity that will eliminate the haziness you feel in this 100 degree Manhattan uncharacteristic thick air. We love the fresh, crisp fruitness of this balanced wine that has layers of complexity, embellishing your senses. It is perfect for summer. The 2009 Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc is a delightfully round and full wine, well balanced with wonderful acidity and a pleasant minerality. It is aromatic with peach, white pepper and hints of paper whites in bloom. Notes of flint whirl delicately around flavors of honey and ripe pear. It is fermented mostly in small stainless barrels, with concrete cuves and French oak barrels providing seductive toast and spice highlights to intrigue the palate. Only 2,492 cases were made. The wine is a blend of 62% Sauvignon Blanc, 33% Sauvignon Musque and 5% Semillon. The appellation is 52% Napa Valley and 48% Sonoma Mountain.
