See Manhattan On Your Feet: Whom You Know's Men of Manhattan Kick Off Coverage of New Balance! NEW BALANCE UPDATES 574 WITH SONIC WELDING

The Sonic 574 takes the iconic Classic 574 into a futuristic and modern realm with the new application of sonic welding for this season.  Used for technical clothing, tents and industrial fabrics, sonic welding is an environmentally friendly alternate to sewing or gluing.  So Earthy Peachy!  The process of heat and pressure application to the seams of pattern pieces fuses the shoe together cutting out waste and crafting the 574 to be airtight and watertight.  Whom You Know is psyched to kick off our coverage of New Balance for men!

The welding process is formed by a hot melt film placed between the synthetic suede and textile on the upper. Through a high-frequency heat they are merged together, reducing the amount of labor required.

The materials used in the Sonic 574 include the synthetic material, Tirrenina Nubuck, a unique material, which does not exist anywhere else on the market. Tirrenina Nubuck is made using a solvent-free process, which significantly reduces the usage of water and carbon dioxide.  Along with the unique nubuck, the shoe also features only 0.9550 square yards of material on the upper, which is half of the amount most shoes use.  The Sonic 574 is deconstructed in design, beautifully executed in rich, basic-colored suedes with pops of neons on the Encap.   Our steller tester concludes:

I have recently been rocking out with the New Balance Sonic 574 sneakers.  Couple of quick pointers, they are hip old-school-looking sneaks with a nice touch of sport to them and are extremely comfortable.  I have been wearing these around the city casually with jeans and dress shirts and I like the look and feel very much.  I have the grey with neon yellow backing and they work perfectly for casual wear and general work outs.  I haven’t tested them in rigorous activity such as hoops or running yet, because I personally like them as dress sneakers, but that’s my preference.  These are the perfect summer sneaks, and go well with jeans and tee shirts or dress shirts.  Also, they match perfectly with shorts and whether you are a low socks, high socks or no socks guys they look classy with each style.  I have never been a fan of wearing basketball sneakers with jeans or dress shorts, I know they are comfy, but they just don’t feel or look right to me, so these are the right style, brand and comfort level for me.  They are light, sturdy, very comfortable and have that urban trendy look about them that makes your summer outfits gel together.  Overall thumbs up for New Balance on this new line of sneaks, they will do well with them.  Urban Outfitters & Nordstrom’s take note, these are the perfect line to carry in your stores immediately.

Available in black suede/electric blue, brown suede/neon orange and grey suede/neon yellow beginning in March 2010 at select, fine boutique retailers worldwide.   Oooooh as these are yellow and gray, the earned old girl colors at Miss Porter's School, these sneaks would be best sellers in Farmington for women!  There's another idea for you, New Balance.

MSRP: $90.00.
