BC Student-Athletes Excel in Graduation Rates BC had most perfect scores of any division I athletic program in the U.S.A.!!!! Whom You Know Highly Recommends Boston College and it is the reason Why We Are Maroon and Gold!
Boston College's student-athletes are once again at the head of the ACC class
The latest graduation figures published by the NCAA show that Boston College student-athletes have a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 96 percent - second only to Duke University's 97 percent GSR rating among all Atlantic Coast Conference schools. Wake Forest University was third on the ACC list with a 93 percent GSR.
The GSR is measured by tabulating the number of student-athletes entering a college or university's freshmen class during a four-year span (1999-2003) and then counting the same group of students who graduate within six years of matriculation. The GSR subtracts students from the entering group who may have left the school or became physically disabled, but who would have been academically eligible to compete had they remained at the initial institution.
"Our top priority is to ensure that our student-athletes work as hard - or harder - in the classroom as they do on the field or court," said Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo. "It's not easy to excel in both areas, especially at a demanding academic institution such as Boston College."
"We are extremely proud of their efforts," DeFilippo said, "and we congratulate them on a job well done."
In the NCAA's published rankings of major ACC sports teams, Boston College baseball and women's basketball teams achieved a 100 percent GSR score. The Eagles' football squad checked in with a 91 GSR tally- second only to Duke's 96 rating among ACC football members. Overall, 21 varsity teams at Boston College achieved 100 per cent graduation success rates - the most perfect scores of any Division I athletic program in the country.
