Fans and admirers of Bob Hope, America's most celebrated immigrant, will not want to miss a chance to visit the newly dedicated Bob Hope Memorial Library at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum.
The Library will showcase permanent and rotating exhibits depicting Bob Hope's illustrious show business career that encompassed his work in comedy, on stage, television and film. Rare photos, film clips, show business awards as well as highlights from his legendary USO shows where he entertained our Troops all around the world will be on display. He was born Leslie Townes Hope in Eltham, England on May 29, 1903, the fifth of seven sons, to an English father, William Henry Hope, was a stonemason and a Welsh mother, Avis Townes Hope, an aspiring concert singer. Mr. Hope was 4 years of age when he immigrated to America with his family from England.
Bob Hope loved his adopted country and felt the need to share his talents with those men and women who fought throughout the years to protect all those values that we all hold dear. He became the most recognized profile and talent in the world. And, in the entire history of show business, no individual traveled so far -- so often -- to entertain so many.
