Etiquette from Connecticut: The Importance of Answering Your Emails. Respondez, S'il Vous Plait!!!
Peachy Deegan does not have perfect French. But she is aware of RSVP, and the fact that it stands for Respondez, S'il Vous Plait. This means in English: Respond, if you please! The importance of paying attention, responding, and not walking around with your head in a cloud is starting to become pushed under the rug these days, and we want to bring your attention to it. RSVP is not on the bottom of email disclaimers, but it should be for those that are clueless.
In particular, in regards to email we are shocked at how lightly some people take it. On Whom You Know for example, we work through email. We need things in writing. We publish writing! People who respond get featured if we think they are great; it's as simple as that. We have made some great friends this way! We say words and they mean things. You are only as good as your word. Some people have had the nerve to say in person: "Oh I got your email." Yes, and you didn't respond? No excuse...we talk to people in person that are also our friends on email and there are many.
We cannot help but shudder at the amount of people that don't take email seriously. It is even more serious because of its speed we would argue! Imagine how much junk mail you get in snail mail. When someone sends you an email, it is your responsibility to respond, yes or no! good or bad! now or never! You get our point....
Email is not casual.
Email is an obligation.
It is the way of the world.
Most of you have got it, but the rest of you, please mind your email!!! It is incredibly rude and gauche not to. Cheers!
