Jo Malone Introduces Cologne Intense: The Art of Simplicity! Whom You Know Recommends Oud & Bergamot-The Bouquet of Aromas Complement Each Other

Jo Malone unveils four new fragrances for July 2010. Inspired by centuries old Middle Eastern rituals of layering scents, incenses and oils, and the beauty of classic ingredients but with Jo Malone’s hallmark simplicity and elegant restraint, Cologne Intense re-interprets time-honoured ingredients in four distinctively modern fragrances: Amber & Patchouli, Oud & Bergamot, Rose Water & Vanilla, and Iris & White Musk.

Master Perfumer Christine Nagel began working with the Jo Malone Creative Studio in 2009. Known for her exciting, original, even experimental compositions, one of her first creations for Jo Malone is Cologne Intense. “Each ingredient has a reason for being”, says Nagel, “Nothing is superfluous. Yes, it’s a bold approach, but I wanted to take such risks to create fragrances with impact, heart and soul. I love to focus on particular ingredients and transform them or look for new associations. With Cologne Intense, I chose to take potentially opposing ingredients of very high quality to create unexpected yet harmonious fragrances…because when fragrance elicits an emotion, the story begins …”

The selection of talented, award-winning Master Perfumer Christine Nagel to work with the Jo Malone Creative Studio, was a natural one. Oud & Bergamot - A fresh interpretation of the dark and hypnotic scent of oud, derived from the heartwood of the aquilaria tree, embedded with an ink-black, aromatic resin. Smoky and mysterious, it also has a surprising chameleon quality, depending on how it’s partnered. Jo Malone has created a truly modern Oud, reframed and refined, with the addition of clean, crisp bergamot and an orange granite accord based on natural extracts of lemon and orange. Our fabulous perfume critic states: I was pleasantly surprised by Jo Malone’s new Cologne Intense Collection. This collection can be layered with one another to create unique and endless combinations. The fragrances are an exotic sensory experience. The Oud & Bergamot Cologne fuses elegant lemon blossoms with exotic agarwood – smoky, kind of musky. The citrus from the Bergamot complimented the earthy richness of the Oud and musk notes. Bergamot is known for its ability to combine with an array of scents to form a bouquet of aromas that compliment each other. The Bergamot is uplifting and slightly sweet and spicy.

Bergamot

Bergamot grows on a small evergreen tree and is named after the Italian city where the fruit was first cultivated. The exquisite bergamot oil from the peel of the fruit has a long history in perfumery. Bergamot oil adds a sweet, citrus scent with a soft floral accent.

Cedarwood

This note has been created so that the wood scent is sleek, clear and a very modern interpretation of cedar, helping to cool the heady intensity of the dominant woody and smoky characteristic of oud.

Oud

This mysterious, sensual, caramelized woody accord represents the darker side of the Jo Malone olfactive signature. The oud wood is married with the bergamot note so that a luminosity is added to balance the dark aspect.
