100WHF Geneva Gala Raises Over CHF 200,000 for Solidarité Femmes Genéve (Women Supporting Women)
On 22nd September 2010 the third Geneva Gala was held by 100 Women in Hedge Funds (“100WHF”), a leading non-profit organization for professionals in the alternatives industry. The Gala was organised in support of Solidarité Femmes Genève, which works with victims of domestic violence by offering social and psychological support, refuge and help rebuilding their lives. The funds raised once again broke the record set at previous Geneva philanthropy events.
Funds raised by 100 Women in Hedge Funds will go towards a project being led by Solidarité Femmes which will extend its knowledge of family problems arising from domestic violence into community services within Geneva. The programme’s objective is to highlight the issues of isolation, post traumatic stress disorder and breakdown of normal family life, with the aim of being able to detect cases of domestic violence earlier on and ensure that victims get the help they need.
In addition to the presentation from Solidarité Femmes, Claire Smith, Board Member for Switzerland, discussed the success of 100WHF globally over the past 10 years, as well as its presence in Switzerland over the last 3 years. Geraldine Sundstrom, Partner and Portfolio Manager at Brevan Howard, and honouree of the 100 Women in Hedge Funds European Industry Leadership Award 2010, spoke of her delight at winning the award, her gratitude to the organisation and colleagues at Brevan Howard, as well as the benefits of working in Geneva.
Guests were also treated to opera classics from the singers of the Solti Te Kanawa Accademia, whose presence was sponsored by the private bank and asset management firm Reyl & Cie. Another highlight of the evening was the sumptuous auction conducted by the vivacious Caroline Lang, Managing Director of Sotheby’s Geneva, where the top lot was a pair of dazzling pink sapphire, ruby and diamond earrings donated by the house of Adler.
"Members of the Geneva philanthropy committee, who have worked hard for many months on the organisation of this event, are delighted that our efforts have funded such a worthwhile and impactful project", commented Claire Smith, " and that the event was so much enjoyed by all who attended."
