Approximately 3 million square feet of the L&L portfolio is either a designated landmark or located within a historic district. Named one of the 100 Most Powerful People in New York Real Estate by the New York Observer, Mr. Levinson served twelve years on the Board of Trustees of the Allen Stevenson School, is a current Board Member of FRIENDS, and a long-time resident of the Upper East Side.  Past honorees include Amanda Burden, Liz Smith, Peter Pennoyer, Emily Rafferty, Louis Auchincloss and Nicholas Platt.

With funds raised at the benefit, FRIENDS can continue to be the curator and steward for the Upper East Side's six historic districts and 126 individual landmarks. FRIENDS conducts public programs including lectures, walking tours, and an architectural education program for elementary school students. Last year, the education program visited 38 classrooms, reaching 797 students in 14 schools on the Upper East Side and in East Harlem.
They also offer advisory testimony at the Landmarks Preservation Commission, acting as a community advocate to encourage and foster the delicate balance between preservation and development on the Upper East Side. The most recent triumph is an expansion of the Upper East Side Historic District, including 74 additional buildings along Lexington Avenue and the adjacent side streets between East 61st and East 75th Streets.
