Summer Streets 2010 was great success as over 100,000 New Yorkers who came out to enjoy and skate the streets car free. Held the first three Saturdays in August, from 7am-1pm, Rollerblade provided two rest stops with Free Skate Rentals and Repairs at the event.
In the final week, Vancouver Winter Olympic ice speedskating Medalist Allison Baver cam top the event on behalf of Rollerblade to sign autographs, tell her story of courage, inspiration and commitment and skate together down Park Ave with the Summer Streets participants.
Allison appeared live on the CBS Early show on Saturday morning with our Mover and Shaker Lonnie Quinn, another fabulous Boston College graduate-see him here as a Mover and Shaker:
the show’s inline skating weatherman who skated to work at CBS in all weather all but 4 days last year. An authentic urban skate commuter who excelled on the Boston College swim team, Lonnie said, “You guys have saved me thousands of dollars by avoiding taxi fares!” Allison, who was the first inline skater to move to short track ice and make the Olympic team, shared her story, the benefits of inline skating skating and encouraged people to come to the Rollerblade tent to skate at Summer Streets.
