WHOM YOU KNOW HIGHLY RECOMMENDS TIBI SPRING 2011! Peachy Deegan and the Fashionable Panelists Absolutely Loved the Show

Whom You Know began in January 2009.  We started covering the Tibi shows in February 2009 and have been to every one since, and have loved them all!  Mover and Shaker Amy Smilovic is a talent that continues to impress, and you're going to love the spring collection too.  Here she is as a Mover and Shaker:

Spring 2011 collection began with a distinct vision of color inspired by the movie “Leave Her to Heaven” starring Gene Tierney.  “The wardrobe selection for each locale and setting flowed with the environment in a way that felt right and refreshing for Spring” said Smilovic, “terra cotta, tobacco, and bold white in New Mexico; denim, plaid, rich red and blue in Lake Michigan, and cornflower blue, white and brown in Cape Cod.” Various tones of white were the focal point of this Tibi collection with reds, yellows and browns included for a vivid shot of color.  We love how she makes such a statement with solids and does not have to rely on the noise of prints that lesser designers rely upon.  Her designs are so strong, yet feminine, that they stand proudly on their own. Amy is a genius.

Rich fabrics, interesting textures and modern twists on classic styles played a large role in the direction of Spring 2011 as well. Perforated leather, laser-cut lace, tweed with leather appliques and cotton crepes were transformed into wearable, grown-up and feminine styles – described by WWD as “Tibi at its best.” Designer dresses with a flare in the hem-line and tonal separates with an air of sophistication paint the portrait of an utterly chic woman with polished style yet bohemian ease - always put together, but nothing overly forced.   This was Peachy's favorite look from the show:
Autumn may be all around us here in New York but the Tibi Spring 2011 Collection presentation at New York Fashion Week definitely has us harkening back (or perhaps forward) to spring already.  The collection is full of pretty and vibrant bright colors (Loved the pieces in Fire, a reddish-orange) as well as soft, muted off-white and khaki shades.  The silhouttes are decidedly flowy and had the signature-Tibi feminine flourishes.  Floral laser-cuts were featured in a number of pieces.  And those of us who lived in shorts this year, it's back again next spring.  Every single piece is wearable and I would totally covet it for my spring 2011 wardrobe!
Designer Amy Smilovic is known for her “casual chic” clothing, and the Spring 2011 collection definitely fits right in this category.  From the circle dresses to the jumpsuits to the jackets and the longer gowns, each piece was ultra-feminine without being frilly, and there were several pieces that we would have stolen off the runway if we could have!  For this collection, Smilovic stayed mostly with whites and a muted green/yellow color described in the accompanying materials as “artichoke,” but there were occasional flashes of more vibrant colors, such as a fiery orange and a beautiful purple which we strongly prefer.  My personal favorite was a short, flirty circle dress in the artichoke color, but a close runner  up was a sleeveless dress in the fiery orange. The models, themselves, echoed the Tibi vibe of cool, confident, and feminine – each of them sported a ponytail with a deep side part, giving them a dramatic yet flirty look, and makeup was clean and simple – soft grays around the eyes, and the perfect, girly shades of light pink for cheeks and lips.  Overall, we thought it was a fantastic collection, and beautifully showcased.
This year at New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center, designer Amy Smilovic presented Tibi’s Spring/Summer 11 Collection.  As always, Tibi speaks to the casual chic style of women all around the city.  Her designs are fresh and fun! And this year, her collection was just as beautiful.  We loved the soft palette and flowing dresses.  Her collection was simple yet with a modern and edgy twist.  The simplicity of the pieces will work well with a variety of accessories to add a little flare. The cute dresses paired with a structured handbag and heels will easily work with a more casual pair of ballerina flats for running around the city. Tops easily pair with dress pants for a casual day look and transition perfectly for a night on the town. Keeping with the leather trend this year, we simply adored the Madison Weave dress with Leather Trim and the Laser Cut Leather Applique Car Coat.  Another favorite was the Cloister Beaded Chiffon Gown in Cream.  A perfect dress for a spring or summer soiree! All of Tibi’s lovely designs make me look forward to shopping for the spring, or maybe a quick Caribbean getaway as soon as the temperature drops here in NYC!
