NYIGF Plans Expansions & Refinements for Winter 2011 Edition
First phase implementation of a three-year strategic reorganization of the New York International Gift Fair® (NYIGF®) continues at the winter 2011 edition with expansions in new divisions and continued refinement of existing categories. A full slate of value-added activities such as seminars, special events, displays and promotions are additional highlights of the winter 2011 market, which runs January 29 through February 3, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Piers 92 and 94.
“NYIGF continues to evolve with an increased emphasis on fashion-focused resources such as artisanal, design-focused, on-trend and eco-friendly products,” said Dorothy Belshaw, NYIGF director and GLM senior vice president. “Technology will play an increasingly important role at NYIGF, with provision of enhanced online search for pre-planning and mobile applications for onsite navigation.”
NYIGF has introduced new Internet-based tools to improve planning for and navigating at the market. Highlights include search.nyigf.com, a robust new micro-site search engine, and nygift.mwap.at, a free new NYIGF Mobile Application. Both of these online tools allow users to search specifically by keyword, product category and location, or broadly by categories such as “new exhibitors” or “exhibitors with new booth locations,” and searches can be saved as well as displayed on a floor plan.
Highlights of the winter 2011 NYIGF include expansion of Baby & Child, the juried juvenile product division which launched in summer 2010, to present some 150 suppliers of wearables, accessories, toys, games, publishers and furnishings for children from 0-10. New York’s Newest, a division which was reintroduced to NYIGF in summer 2010, also will expand at Pier 92 to showcase some 250 newcomers to the New York market and the industry at large.
Further refinements are planned for Handmade, following its summer 2010 reorganization into two distinct categories – Handmade® Designer Maker and Handmade® Global Design – which groups artisans by process and provenance. A new “Stationery and Publishers” neighborhood launched within the General Gift division last August, also will be expanded for the winter 2011 market.
The Licensing Gallery at NYIGF, an annual business-to-business forum comprised of individual artists, designers, licensing agents and design studios, returns to NYIGF in winter 2011. Its 30+ participants will present a broad assortment of art and design for license and sale to manufacturers and product developers of home products. The Licensing Gallery at NYIGF runs Saturday, January 29 - Monday, January 31, 2011, at the Javits Center.
NYIGF has six other divisions – Accent on Design® featuring A+™ The Young Designers’ Platform, showcasing design-focused products from some 200 juried companies across all product categories; At Home and At Home featuring Home Textiles, presenting some 500 suppliers of home furnishings and home fashions; EXTRACTS, offering some 100 personal care, beauty and cosmetics and well-being lines; Personal Accessories featuring Details, featuring 200 exhibitors of wearables, fine and fashion jewelry, fashion accessories, luggage and travel accessories; Studio, highlighting some 100 suppliers of innovative and inspired lifestyle merchandise; and Tabletop & Housewares featuring Accent on Tabletop, including 200 resources for specialty tabletop and home entertaining.
Throughout market week, nearly 30 educational seminars and social events will offer added value for market participants. Among these are instructional sessions on social media, fair trade, sustainability, home and color trends, marketing and retail strategies. After-hours industry and networking functions include “Party for Life,” Gift For Life’s Annual Fundraiser on Sunday, January 30, and “A Night on Broadway” featuring 2010 Tony Award winning Best Musical MEMPHIS on Tuesday, February 1. NYIGF’s SustainAbility: design for a better world® display will return in 2011 to feature hundreds of eco-friendly and socially-responsible gift and home products. Visitors to the display can vote for their favorite products in three categories – most innovative, most sellable, and best use of materials – as part of the Eco Choice Awards, co-sponsored by NYIGF and GREENRetailer magazine.
In January, NYIGF will introduce a new Baby & Child “Peek-A-Boo” display, previewing new gear, décor, accessories and wearables from exhibitors in this new division. Editors of leading trade publications and representative from top parenting blogs and websites will select their top picks in several categories. NYIGF will recognize product innovation in other product categories, with presentation of several other awards – including EXTRACTS Best New Product Awards, Home Textiles Market Week® Best New Product Awards, Accent on Design Awards and the Accent on Design Bloggers’ Choice Awards – during the market.
NYIGF is the nation’s premier gift, home and lifestyle marketplace, with 2,800 exhibiting companies featuring an extraordinary breadth and depth of design-driven home fashion products and complementary giftware.
