I absolutely love Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies: Compendium Monstrum from Peter Pauper Press.  The artwork in the book is outstanding and the information that is given is presented in a way that makes reading interesting.  The book helps you determine the difference between zombies and mummies, and gives warning signs of werewolves. What I found most interesting was from the Vampire section--only 3 species of bats, out of a total of 1,100, hunt for blood. I was also able to make connections to other pieces I have watched or read.  It was very interesting to see how certain authors use a lot of this folklore in their own writing.  I also liked how each section has it's own fold out map.  The most fun part of the book, I think, had to be at the very end.  There are pages for those that want to go track for and observe werewolves, vampires and zombies.  This is the perfect gift for anyone who enjoys this type of folklore!

For those of us who are fans and totally swept up in the vampire genre that's taken over pop culture, this little guide is a great and fast way to acquaint ourselves with the history, literary and otherwise, of how the vampire lore came about.  Using Bram Stoker's classic novel as a touch point, we see how many cultures throughout history have their own version and lore of bloodsuckers.  Likewise, werewolves and zombies are also featured in this book and they too, have their own interesting history and place in pop culture.  For the monster fan out there, this book is a quick and must-read to get up to date on the various myths and legends.  And maybe possibly some truths?  This book is fun to read too, as it's written with plenty of wit and humor.  The illustrations throughout add to the effect and make it quite an enjoyable read.
