Spa Peachy: Microdermabrasion at Elizabeth Arden Recommended by Whom You Know! And Happy Birthday, Nina!
Happy Spa Week, Whom You Know readers! To celebrate, Peachy Deegan recently visited the Elizabeth Arden spa for Microdermabrasion on her Face. They define it as: Gentle mechanical exfoliation minimizes fine lines, wrinkles, minor acne scarring and discoloration. Smooth and healthy looking skin is revealed. This is true! *** When we consult Wikipedia, they tell us that Microdermabrasion is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microdermabrasion Microdermabrasion (often referred to as Microderm) is a family of cosmetic procedures popular in spas, doctors' practices, and medical spas in which the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin) is partially or completely removed by light abrasion, to improve many unwanted skin conditions such as; sun-damaged skin, acne, acne scars and dark spots, or Melasma. It also helps to moisturize and improve fine lines, wrinkles and blotchy skin. The procedure is not painful, requires no anesthetic and typically takes 30 minutes to complete. Microdermabrasion can be used medically for scar improvement, when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin, but is less effective with sunken scars. There is very little, if any, evidence that microdermabrasion stimulates collagen formation. Microdermabrasion can also be used for treatment ofacne, but must be repeated periodically to be effective. Most practitioners recommend getting monthly treatment sessions. Microdermabrasion should not be used on patients who have taken the medication Accutane in the previous twelve months. Different methods include mechanical abrasion from jets of zinc oxide or aluminum oxide crystals, fine organic particles, or a roughened (Diamond) surface. Particles are removed with a wand/handpiece, by suction, through which the abrasive particles come.[1] The term dermabrasion itself refers to the more severe medical procedure carried out under general or light anesthesia. *** This is our second visit to Elizabeth Arden, and they are truly professional in every aspect. The spa is impeccably clean, and maintains a relaxing atmosphere with warm lighting and plants to add to the life of the experience. The lobby exudes class from the cute silver tables to the fresh iced tea and water available to clients who await their treatment. Calm, quiet music adds to the pleasure of the experience whether you are in the waiting room or in a treatment room. It is relaxing and makes you feel like you are on vacation in a luxurious retreat. The whole experience is temperate: not too hot and not too cold like other inferior spas can be. The staff appears in clean black outfits and the best one there is Nina Maskil who is warm and accommodating the minute she greets you. And, she is totally knowledgeable as she boasts years of experience in the spa industry that do not show on her face. You will not believe she is a grandmother. We hope she is having lots of fun reading us on her amazing new laptop today! She will begin the microdermabrasion by cleaning and toning your skin with an amazing line that is organic from Italy. The microdermobraision treatment has three choices of a flower powder. You can select a lavender powder, which is for soothing, a rose powder for dehydrated skin or tee tree for problem skin. In experiencing microdermabrasion, Peachy Deegan learned that not only does she love to wear diamonds, she also loves when they improve her skin! After hydrating her skin, it was time for the actual microdermabrasion which infused the hydrating gel into Peachy's skin. When using the microderm machine, Nina uses the diamond tip wand vertically and horizontally across the skin. It is a bit like a vacuum! Although there is not a tremendous variation between the levels one to five with the machine, 5 is the deepest and Peachy had the 2nd level used on her. Then, Nina cleans the powder with a very calming cleanser, their exclusive brand Villa Floriani, chamomile cleanser. Finally, a calming mask to tone down any redness or blotchiness is applied along with soothing treatments on both of your hands. After she removes the mask, Nina applies a moisturizer with spf to hydrate the skin. The finishing touch is the right eye cream, specifically for your skin type. The whole experience takes about an hour and feels like it lasts for 10 minutes - time flies when you are having fun! Whom You Know recommends microdermabrasion at Elizabeth Arden! |
