An Update from Our Mover and Shaker Jessica Lappin: Fall Update: Second Avenue Subway, Seniors, and More
She tells us:
Second Avenue Subway Construction: I recently discussed and debated the MTA’s proposed ancillary facilities on Fox 5 News here. I also joined with Congresswoman Maloney to grade the MTA’s performance of the project. You can read about that in the Daily News by clicking here.
“Green” Dry Cleaning?: Right now, there are no regulations determining what a dry cleaner has to do to be considered “green” or “eco-friendly.” Just about any dry cleaner, regardless of their practices, can claim to be “organic”. I’d like to change that. We just had a hearing on my bill to do so last Wednesday. The New York Times Green blog covered the hearing.
Seniors: The City Council passed my Silver Alerts bill, which will help protect New Yorkers with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. You can watch the NY1 report here. You can also read about New York’s efforts to become a more age-friendly city on AOL News here.
FDR Four Freedoms Park: Work is officially underway for the Franklin Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island. You can click here to watch my remarks from a celebration at the site. You can read coverage of the event from the Epoch Times here.
I’ll continue to work on these issues and keep you posted. As always, I welcome your input and suggestions.
Sincerely,
Jessica Lappin
