READ THIS: Safe Haven by Nicolas Sparks
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and the world keeps getting smaller and smaller. Our Read This panel decided to read this book independent of and before the Star Vodka event last Thursday, and you know we go to every Star Vodka event, in Manhattan anyway. Incidentally that event was to support Safe Horizons:

We look forward to featuring Ariel soon, and also it should come to no surprise to you that everyone on this Read This panel is an ancient, which means she is a Farmington graduate.

The panel says:
Nicolas Sparks has created another heart-rending tale with Safe Haven. When, after weeks of nomadic flight from a startlingly frightening past, a beautiful stranger arrives in Southport, NC, no one in the sleepy Southern town could possibly imagine the nightmare Katie endured to finally find her Safe Haven. But a fresh start in both life and love, will prove costly for Katie, for those whom she comes to love, and for the one who searches for her. A poignant story of love, revenge, and ultimate justice, Safe Haven does not disappoint. For Sparks fans, it is a must-read. And, for those who find Sparks's novels as sickly sweet as the s'mores Katie enjoys on the beach with her new love...give him a try. It's nice to be inspired and reminded of how life and love could be. After all, folks, it's a novel, not a memoir.
We review many books at Whom You Know, but very few works of fiction because quite honestly, not many are worth knowing in our opinion. Nicholas Sparks is a proven novelist that captures the attention of the reader immediately, and he is less known for his humor, which you should be aware of. When characters are wearing shirts that say "Try Our Fish Just for the Halibut" you know he is multi-talented. Peachy Deegan is not really soppy sweet so she didn't know how she'd find this, but she really did love and and literally read it from cover to cover in one sitting, with some nice wine of course which you'll read about later. We doubt you'll be able to put down this page turner either. And if you're a single female in Manhattan this will make you feel even better about being single, because it reminds you of what could be out there. Be aware! This is the first Nicolas Sparks book we've reviewed we believe, and it won't be our last. Now we want to review the movie!

Knowing her self-imposed isolation cannot last forever, Katie grows confident, safe and happy with the new life she has created for herself with Alex, a widowed grocery store owner – whom she loves and confides in – and his two adoring children, her new neighbor and friend, Jo, and a steady job at Ivan’s restaurant. Deciding to finally go for the driver’s license she has always wanted, Katie unknowingly opens the door to a very troubling and violent past.SAFE HAVEN is a novel about the darker forces of love, and what can happen when fear is replaced by belief in oneself, in second chances, and in the power of forces that must be accepted but can never be fully understood.
