Terrific Takeout: Mimi's!!!
For all of the years that Peachy Deegan has lived in Manhattan, studies show that she has eaten more pizza at Mimi's than any other place. The takeout column so far is filled with pizza because guess what-she loves it and there is a lot of fabulous pizza here-one more good reason to live in Manhattan. Everyone at Mimi's was fabulously friendly and loved her way before she was a food critic. They loved her when she was a bond trader. Going to Mimi's is the closest real life thing to Cheers that you will find in New York as opposed to Boston: they know everyone's name that is a regular. In the capital of pizza, Manhattan, Mimi's stands out: you can see from above this one is an A+. We shudder to think about the pizza outside of Manhattan, particularly as it is time to leave for the holidays. Mimis pizza bursts with flavor in every bite and the crust is like fluffy pillows that the invitingly fresh ingredients rest upon just long enough until you see it and devour it. The onions and peppers were perfectly crunchy and the pepperoni and mushrooms were so flavorful this pizza will make a party in your mouth! The salad is just perfect:
Even when Peachy lived in London, she dreamed of this pizza and if she had the transportation options that Paul McCartney does, she too would have had their pizza flown over. (It is true- Paul McCartney has been known to do this and did before he stopped eating cheese. You can ask owner Steve Vanacore.) The first thing Peachy did upon getting to the Upper East side from across the pond was to go to Mimi's and get a slice of pizza! Today Mimi's Pizza is at 1248 Lexington Ave. at 84th Street where it has been since 1965, but it was founded in 1959 on the west side: the original location was on 50th street and 10th avenue, and it was founded by Mimi himself: Dominic "Mimi" Vanacore. Today his son, Steve Vanacore, does an absolutely amazing job with Mimi's. A cannoli was the perfect ending:
