He learned how to be feisty from Ulf Samuelsson and Kevin Dineen.
He learned the business and managerial side of hockey from Hall of Famers Scotty Bowman, Craig Patrick and Emile Francis.
He watched Francis, Samuelsson and superstars Mario Lemieux andJaromir Jagr win the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
He enjoyed all the thrills any person would dream about thanks to the generosity of Whalers equipment manager Skip Cunninghamand assistant Bobby Gorman, who hired him as an assistant in 1983.
