Consolo Chairs Tea and Talk with the Tops Feb. 22 at ICSC Mid-Atlantic
The second year of the International Council of Shopping Centers' Special Interest Group program for women in the retail and real estate industries will kick off with "Tea and Talk with the Tops," a group of roundtables chaired by "Queen of Retail"Faith Hope Consolo at the Mid-Atlantic Conference and Deal Making. The session will be held Tuesday, February 22nd from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center, 201 Waterfront Street in National Harbor, MD.
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) focus on a specific discipline of the industry and allow professionals in the field to meet and share common ideas, interests and challenges. They also provide excellent opportunities for networking with colleagues and engaging with business associates. The group meetings especially allow for informal, interactive discussions. The initiative was launched at ICSC's RECon 2010, the global conference held in Las Vegas in May, and continued at ICSC regional conferences in Boston, Kissimmee, FL, San Diego, Chicago, Atlanta and New York City. This year brings an expansion of the program to new cities, including the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.
"I'm delighted to again chair this program for ICSC, and to bring it to the nation's capital," said Ms. Consolo, Chairman of Prudential Douglas Elliman's Retail Group. "One of the joys of chairing this program has been the opportunity to meet and work closely with so many outstanding professionals. And this group is no exception!"
Following a meet-and-greet tea service, each attendee will be able to sit in on two informal talks. Ms. Consolo will discuss "New Retailers and Globalization" will be joined by Barbara E. Champoux, Esq., a partner at Crowell & Moring LP, discussing "When to Hold/When To Fold," regarding lease negotiation. Marilyn Coolidge of NAI Global will offer "Confidence-Building Strategies to Achieve Success." Jennifer A. Hurt, Environmental Business Development Director for ECS Mid-Atlantic, will lead a talk on "Avoiding Environmental Pitfalls," while Betsy Laird, Staff Senior Vice President of Global Public Policy for ICSC, discusses "Successful Strategies for Engaging Elected Officials." Robin McBride, vice president and COO of the Mid-Atlantic region of Federal Realty Investment Trust, will talk about "Maintaining Public/Private Partnerships."
"Barbara helped us launch this initiative by leading a roundtable at RECon, and also spoke in Florida last year, so I'm particularly thrilled that she has agreed to join us a third time," Ms. Consolo said. "That sort of commitment to advancing women in the industry is the reason we established this program, and a real sign we’re achieving that goal."
ICSC and Consolo will continue to host Special Interest Groups at a number of ICSC regional meetings through the rest of the year, with the next scheduled for May 22 at RECon, ICSC's global conference in Las Vegas.
A nominal fee will be charged to attend the Special Interest Group, and pre-registration is required. Those wishing to register for the SIG, or for the entire conference should visitwww.icsc.org/2011MA for more information.
