Faith Hope Consolo Teaches at The Learning Annex, Feb. 2, 2011

Learning Annex students looking to improve their negotiating skills soon will have their chance. "Queen of Retail" Faith Hope Consolo will offer her deal-making expertise in a class on "Negotiating for Business – And Life" at The Learning Annex in New York City. The class will be offered Wednesday, February 2, 2011, from 6:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Ms. Consolo, Chairman of Prudential Douglas Elliman's Retail Group, has stood toe-to-toe with some of the top stores, designers and developers around the country, brokering transactions that have remade the retail landscape. She will offer practical lessons that help students change careers, make money and and improve their skills. Using real-life examples, she will give her unique perspective on the stages of any negotiation, from introduction to discussion to conclusion – and even when to walk away.

"While negotiations are obviously intrinsic to my work, they also are a part of nearly every aspect of life," Ms. Consolo said. "Whether you're trying to persuade a boss to give you a raise, get a lower selling price on a house, or are involved in a major business deal, many of the skills and techniques of getting what you want are the same. I'm so pleased to share that with The Learning Annex's audience."

As the most renowned retail broker and consultant in the United States, Faith Hope Consolo is credited with revitalizing and sculpting retail corridors in New York City, around the United States and beyond. She has negotiated with such major retailers, restaurants and designers as Cartier, H. Stern, Zara, Sermoneta, Nine West, Bare Escentuals, Jimmy Choo, Versace, Paul Smith, Houston’s, Trattoria dell’Arte, Cosí, Sephora, Au Bon Pain, H&M and Giorgio Armani, and most of New York’s major developers.

"All of these tenants and landlords have very exacting needs and standards, not all of them compatible," Ms. Consolo said. "That's where I come in – locating the common ground between the two parties, and working to find the compromises needed to get the deal done. That philosophy – commonality and compromise – can apply to any negotiating situation, and will form the basis of my lecture at The Learning Annex. I'm also interested in hearing from the students about the types of negotiations they face in their professional and personal lives."

This will be Ms. Consolo's first appearance at The Learning Annex, but she is a regular speaker at both academic and business institutions. She has served as an instructor at New York University, Parsons School of Design and the Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute at Baruch College, and has spoken before the National Association of Business Owners, American Institute of Architects, International Council of Shopping Centers, and the Luxury Institute, among other entities.

The author of The FaithFul Shopper blog on Huffington Post and the quarterly publication The Faith Report, Ms. Consolo appears frequently on television, including as the "Faithful Fashionista" on WPIX, as well as on Bloomberg, Fox Business network, CNN and CNBC. She is a regular contributor to The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, New York Real Estate Journal, Real Estate Weekly, and the Associated Press.

Ms. Consolo joins an illustrious list of previous Learning Annex instructors including Donald Trump, Henry Kissinger, Bishop Desmond Tutu and Sarah Jessica Parker.
