Terrific Takeout: Gracie Mews Diner
Much more than a diner, Gracie Mews diner makes these baked stuffed shrimp with crabmeat that were screaming "Eat me! Eat me!" to Peachy Deegan, much to her delight. Seasoned, buttered and teased with lemon, the shrimp will not last long on your dish. Lightly browned on top, they were perfectly cooked and not overdone one bit. There is nothing worse than old, rubbery seafood and Steve the manager assured us this was fresh today delivered from Seabreeze market on 41st and 9th.
Salad was uber-Mediterranean with grilled vegetables in all their glory, but not boring vegetables at all-have no fear. Yellow squash, zucchini, eggplant, chicken, red peppers and lettuce combine to form a medley of goodness that actually tastes good, unlike inferior vegetarian dishes at lesser diners. The icing on the cake is the mozzarella that is delightfully crumbled like fairydust on a dream atop the mountains of Mediterranean hits. Isn't the Mediterranean diet supposed to be the envy of the world? No wonder why this salad is a best seller.
