Terrific Takeout: Hi Life
We've heard some fabulous things about Hi Life recently from our readers, so Peachy Deegan just had to try it out. She started off with a bunny hop and headed straight to one of their fabulous salad selections: The Slice of Ice. The Iceberg lettuce was crisp and fresh with every bite, but the star of the salad was the cherry tomatoes. Wherever they came from, because we know they're not from balmy Connecticut this time of year, we want to know because we want more! Sliced in halves they were so sweet and flavorful. The bacon was beautifully arranged and the blue cheese dressing, to the side just as we asked, and the blue cheese, also on the side in a cute container, make this slice of ice something you'll want to skate right into your mouth.
Chinatown spare ribs will delight all carnivores. Garnished by shredded carrots, they were grilled just right and a tasty side with succulence. Terribly juicy you won't mind getting your hands dirty one bit for these babies, and they were certainly meaty ribs!
The Broiled California King Salmon left Peachy Deegan wondering if she should become a California girl....baked with ginger, scallions, lemon and white wine this is the go-to fish dish for takeout. Angelic Peachy ordered the creamed spinach with it while devilish Peachy added the french fries, and both were excellent. The spinach had something sweet in it which we don't often find with creamed spinach-so if you are a hesitant spinach eater it almost doesn't taste like spinach-it is like a dessert! The salmon was grilled to perfection in a perfect pink hue and spiced just right.
The grand finale was the three-berry pie consisting of raspberries, blueberries and blackberries! It was the perfect touch and a standout dessert and even had whipped cream on the side. Owner Earl Geer has it in high gear with the Hi Life-from the east side to the west side they've got uptown covered! Surely Peachy will be back in the Hi Life again!
