Sotheby's Hong Kong to hold Evening Sale of "The Ullens Collection - The Nascence of Avant Garde China"

Sotheby’s Hong Kong will hold on 3 April 2011 an Evening Sale of an important private collection of contemporary Chinese Art: The Ullens Collection – The Nascence of Avant Garde China, offering 106 masterpieces from the legendary Collection, which are expected to bring a total of US$12.7 million to 16.7 million. The group on offer are important early works created over the late 1980s and the early 1990s by the most prominent contemporary Chinese artists and are rarely seen publicly since their acquisition.

The Ullens Collection encapsulates the evolution of creative ideologies and artistic dialogues between some of the greatest artists in the most fertile period in contemporary Chinese art history. To honour this legacy, Sotheby’s will create an educational exhibition in conjunction with the auction’s Hong Kong preview, providing a visual overview of the development of contemporary Chinese art in the 1980s and 1990s. Highlights from the collection will be on view in New York during Asia week from 18th – 21st March.
