Terrific Takeout: Genesis

With the amount of Italian places featured in this column, you'd be convinced that Peachy was Italian.  Many say she looks it, but in fact, she is not.  She is black Irish (that kind of means she gets a nice tan!) and could not be more pleased that she found an Irish place to recommend tonight.  Seriously, it does not happen often enough.  Let us introduce you to Genesis, which is much more than a bar!

If you are Irish you know there are jokes about Kerrymen...and if you are not Irish, you may associate these jokes with people from Poland or New Jersey.  Get it?  You get it.  Well, the chef is from County Kerry but we can assure you none of the Kerry jokes are valid with his cooking.  Peachy used to live in Cork where the Kerrymen jokes ran rampant.  We began with the green salad which was deliciously fresh and atypical of what you would find in a common bar.  You know Peachy is sophisticated Irish and does not go to common bars....they paid attention to and the ranch dressing was on the side.  And it was excellent and worth the calories she'll have to rollerblade off when the snow and ice melt.

Kick Kennedy, who said in her Mover and Shaker interview, would be pleased with the filet mignon because it is wrapped in BACON~!  A pure delight, it was cooked to medium as ordered, and definitely a hit off the menu-Fergal Burke you are right.  It tasted far better than it looks in this picture and we fear it did not travel the few blocks as well as it might have.  Served with sauteed spinach and a red wine demi glaze...it reminded us of the book we recently read by Nevin Maguire: http://www.whomyouknow.com/2010/12/read-this-home-chef-by-neven-maguire.html
So, anyone that thinks the Irish can't cook are right when they are talking about Peachy in particular, but she is good at eating and writing about it-but you should be well aware that the current Celtic tiger is in the form of food in Manhattan and between the aforementioned fare, the outstanding French onion soup which is just ideal for this weather, and the grand finale of Molten Chocolate Cake, you will not be one bit disappointed.
