Sotheby's Mid-Season Contemporary Art Auction Goes On View
On 9 March 2011 Sotheby’s mid-season Contemporary Art Auction will include carefully selected works by artists from the Post-War period through the present day. All of the works go on view this weekend at Sotheby’s York Avenue headquarters. Estimates range from $4,000 to $400,000, offering a wealth of superb works for both seasoned collectors and younger buyers of contemporary art. The sale covers a range of movements from Abstract Expressionism through Pop, Minimalism, Conceptualism and Contemporary Photography and also features work by some of today's most interesting younger artists.
The highlight of the sale is Andy Warhol's black and white Work Boots from 1985-86 (est. $400/600,000). A major Glenn Ligon work from 1994 White #12 appears at auction for the first time just as the mid career retrospective opens at the Whitney Museum (est. $180/220,000). Jeff Koons also features in the sale with an important work from the landmark exhibitionEquilibrium - Rising Stars from 1985 (est. $40/60,000). Among the emerging artists in the sale are Shahzia Sikander, Friedrich Kunath, Angelo Filomeno’s and Sarah Morris.
