Sotheby's Results: Mid-Season Contemporary Art
Today’s mid-season sale of Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s New York totaled $9,444,065 nearing the high estimate of $9.5 million. Overall the sale was 78% sold.
Erica Barrish, Head of the Sale, said: “We are pleased with the results of today’s sale which totaled $9.4 million nearing the top estimate and was 78% sold. Buyers came from across the world, with particularly strong participation from Latin America, North America and Europe, and strong bidding from both the trade and private collectors. Highlights included the 1985-6 Work Boots by Andy Warhol which soared above the $400/600,000 estimate to sell for $758,500. Glenn Ligon was also highly sought after with White #12 more than doubling the low estimate to sell for $374,500, just as the mid-career retrospective Glenn Ligon: AMERICA opens at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Records were set for Jack Bush and Craig Kauffman. Overall this is a great result which follows the strong series of sales in London this February.”
