Follow the team on its global adventure in words, photo and video throughout the season – including this weekend’s Spa 1,000k - on its ALMS.com blog! MY MOM IS GREAT During Winner’s Circle interviews, many drivers will thank their mom. The gratitude is generally for the support and encouragement received throughout a racing career. But what if that thanks meant “Thank you for that great pit stop and second stint that put us in the lead?” In honor of Mother’s Day, we asked several drivers what their odds at the next race, Lime Rock Park, would be if Mom was a co-driver. WALKER: A RACING PRO'S PRO Derrick Walker is more than just a survivor, writes Mike Harris for ESPN.com. He's a racing pro's pro. His latest job is team manager of Team Falken Tire in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón. In just two races, Walker has helped shape a middle-of-the-pack GT team into a solid contender in a very competitive division dominated by factory teams - and he's done it with holdover drivers Bryan Sellers and Wolf Henzler. CHANGE IS NECESSARY Perhaps the most critical aspect of an ALMS race is the pit stop, and it’s easy to see why. Teams spend a ton of time and resources to find a half-second on the track but a bad stop can cost 15-20 seconds extra that isn’t easily recovered. Extreme Speed Motorsports’ Tony Leith gives us the rundown. NEW TEAMMATES, FAST FRIENDS The dynamic between drivers is an important component of a successful sports car team. Just like relationships away from the track, a successful driver pairing involves trust and respect. Building this rapport can take time and may not even happen at all, but Corvette Racing has been lucky enough to come across a natural pairing in veteran Olivier Beretta and newcomer Tommy Milner. AND SPEAKING OF MOM... If you forgot that Sunday, May 8, is Mother’s Day in the U.S., now may be a good time to buy a belated gift from the ALMS Web Shop, or better yet, surprise her with some tickets to the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park. |
