Vintage
*Frequent springtime rains and wide temperature variations created challenging conditions in the vineyard. Twenty days of heavy rain from April to June promoted vigorous vegetation growth, despite a sudden cold snap in mid-May.
*The rain ceased in late June, and the subsequent hot and sunny weather in July helped to restore vine development to a normal schedule.
*Low temperatures, humidity and rainfall returned in August, which slowed down the ripening process and delayed harvest by ten days.
*Good weather returned in September and October, allowing the grapes to be harvested in optimal condition.
History
Antinori has produced Orvieto since 1922 and an Orvieto Classico since 1932. With the 1988 vintage, this wine was given the name Campogrande.
Vinification
*The grapes were de-stemmed and gently pressed, and the juice was then racked into temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for fermentation.
*The wine remained in stainless steel tanks after fermentation in order to preserve its youthful characteristics.
*It was then filtered and bottled prior to release.

Santa Cristina's 2010 Campogrande Orvieto in a word is -- brilliant! The 2010 vintage has a bouquet of fresh fruit that lends itself to a perfect afternoon of sipping wine. A great varietal straight out of Italy. The finish is slightly sweet without being overbearing. The color is so pale that it begs to be used during the day. Dare I call this wine refreshing? Yes! It is at the same time crisp yet bold enough to let you know it has arrived. I paired it with a devine spicy sushi and sashimi luncheon with my girlfriends and we were all enjoyed it immensly! The acidity of the wine makes it a perfect balance with food or alone. I would highly reccommend this wine on a sunny spring or summer day. I could easily imagine pairing with a lovely salad of fresh greens and fruit as well as the fish. You must try this wine!
I had to do my research before trying the Orvietto from Santa Christina. From the region of Umbria, many great wines have come. This one seems to be just a cut above most of the others in its price range. Now that Summer seems closer, I search for a great white blend for those warm summer evenings. This Summer I will definitely be adding this Orvietto to my list of go tos. Perfect with light summer fare or just enjoy a glass on your own. Santa Christina produced a crisp white wine with a strong citrusy flavor. However, they created this clean tasting wine without the sweetness you might expect. Pale yellow in color, the bouquet opens with luscious fruity-floral aromas that engulf your senses. Soft and well-balanced on the palate. A rich and delicious white that you will not get tired of drinking. Another winner from the Santa Christina family.
I cannot believe I've never tried this wine before. I love anything that has any kind of lemon aroma or taste to it, so I knew upon opening this wine, it would be one I loved. It had such a wonderful lemon and floral aroma to it. Upon tasting it, it had a wonderful well-balanced taste to it. It had a nice flavor of citrus that I love in white wines. This is a wine that I know I would enjoy chilled sitting outside after a long day at work. My favorite pairing with this wine was mozzarella cheese. I also enjoyed this wine with a tomato based vegetable dish that I served at a small dinner party I had. One of the guests had brought some chicken to grill and the Orvietto complemented that wine quite nicely as well. The friends I had at dinner couldn't stop talking about how much they loved this wine. This was one that they wanted to order and one that I know I will keep stocked in my wine cabinet. I highly recommend it!
