Sotheby's to Sell Portrait of British Advocate for American Independence - Happy 4th of July from Whom You Know!

Next Wednesday’s Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale at Sotheby’s London will include a portrait of Lord Lansdowne, whom George Washington acknowledged as someone to whom the young United States of America owed a great deal. Portrait of William Petty, 2nd Earl of Shelburne, 1st Marquess of Landsdowne (1737-1805), Seated Three Quarter-Length In General’s Uniform with Garter Ribbon, the Lesser George Tied to His Sash, painted by Jean Laurent Mosnier, is estimated at £200/300,000.
