RALPH LAUREN, CALVIN KLEIN, and MARC JACOBS: Redken's Runway Report from New York with hair by Guido

Redken Creative Consultant Guido wrapped up New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012 yesterday with three distinct looks at Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Marc Jacobs that all reflected the “American sensibility” that Guido says he sees here every season: “What I like about the hair in New York is that it’s always all about what women will actually wear.”

The hair at Ralph Lauren was clean, simple and modern- the epitome of the Ralph Lauren woman.  “The look is easy sophistication achieved by a ponytail.  It’s very elegant but not forced.  It’s just about true beauty and a luxurious look.”
–Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

The look at Calvin Klein was pure, natural, and simple. “This look is supposed to appear as if each girl was just wearing her hair naturally. It’s very Calvin Klein, it’s very beautiful, and we don't see it very often; it’s refreshing.”
–Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:
- Nature's Rescue Radiant Sea Spray

Create the Look:
-Spray Nature's Rescue Radiant Sea Spray onto wet hair and let air dry
-Guido used a 1-inch curling iron on very straight hair to create slight bend if there was none

At Marc Jacobs, Guido created an up-twist that was a nod to the 1960’s with a hint of inspiration from the 1920’s.  Guido’s team added irregular bangs to the models (pre-prepped bang hair pieces, not cutting their actual hair) and side burns; some of the models also wore hair pieces in the show.  “This look was inspired by Sweet Charity and resembles a 1960’s girl who was dancing all night.” – Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:
-satinwear 02 ultimate blow-dry lotion
-forceful 23 super strength finishing spray

Step-by-Steps:
-Apply satinwear 02 ultimate blow-dry lotion to damp hair and rough dry to add texture into the hair
-At this point, Guido’s team added irregular bangs to the models (pre-prepped bang hair pieces, not cutting their actual hair) and side burns.  If the woman doesn’t have bangs, she can skip to the next step.
-Create a small left side part about an inch back from the hairline.
-Pull the rest of the hair into a French twist and secure with bobby pins.
-Spray the entire shape with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to both secure the hair in place. The overuse of this product gives the hair a wet look.
-Comb the front bangs close to the head and apply a few bobby pins to keep the hair close to the head, finish this section with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray.
