READ THIS: WINE SECRETS Advice from Winemakers, Sommeliers, and Connoisseurs by Marnie Old

Of course, you cannot drink wine 24 hours a day (or Peachy Deegans either, for that matter!) so when you are not drinking it, you might as well be reading about drinking it because it will enhance your experiences, not to mention that you will become quite impressive to your fellow connoisseurs. Did you know that in a way, making red wine is like making tomato sauce and making white wine is like making gazpacho?  You would if you read this book!  Can you have erudite discussions on terroir?  We know you want to.  We bet Mover and Shaker Nova can...and don't you want to have intelligent things to say to her at the next Mover and Shaker party? What is the difference between old world and new world?  How will you look like you're tasting wine like a pro?  Does color have taste? (no!) And really, you ought to know the difference between tannic and dry.  The best article in this book can be found on page 98: How to Find the Best Wines by Sticking to the Classics.  That chapter is a must-read.  And Marnie Old's insight into each article is wonderful.  Whom You Know recommends Wine Secrets!

To the average wine drinker, wine’s complexities can seem overwhelming. How do I choose a bottle at the store? Which pairs best with the dish I’ve ordered? At what temperature should I serve wine? These are just a few of the many questions answered in Wine Secrets: Advice from Winemakers, Sommeliers, and Connoisseurs (September 1, 2009; $19.95; ISBN: 978-1-59474-261-3) by Marnie Old, one of the premier sommeliers and wine educators in the U.S.

Inside Wine Secrets, author Marnie Old calls on forty of the world’s most-renowned wine experts to share insider tips, techniques, and wisdom from their extensive experience. Chapters include “Wine Basics,” “Wine Tasting,” “Wine Shopping,” “Wine and Food Pairing,” “Wine in Restaurants,” and “Wine at Home,” and feature such topics as:

White vs. Red Wine: Differences Run More Than Skin Deep by Gina Gallo of Gallo Family Vineyards
How to Taste Wine Like a Pro by Richard Betts, Master Sommelier and Winemaker
How to Guesstimate Wine Style from Packaging Clues by Olivia Boru, Sommelier
How, When, And Why to Send Back a Bottle of Wine by Piero Selvaggio, restaurateur
How to Preserve Open Wine (Yes, You Can Freeze it) by Master of Wine and Master Sommelier Ronn Wiegand
How to Use Leftover Wine in the Kitchen by celebrity chef Jacques Pépin
And much more!

“I meet a lot of people who are worried about picking the wrong wine or serving it incorrectly. If we allow wine to induce stress, we’ve really got ourselves turned around. The idea is to be drinking wine to relieve stress. That’s why I wrote this book,” explains Old.

Whether you’re mystified by the wine list or you’d like to know how to properly store your Burgundy, Wine Secrets: Advice from Winemakers, Sommeliers, and Connoisseurs is an accessible catalog of essential tips in one convenient, engaging, and sophisticated package.
