East River Greenway - Big Announcement from Mover and Shaker Jessica Lappin!

Jessica tells Peachy:

Earlier this week, I joined the Mayor and other elected officials in announcing an agreement that will generate funds to close the gap on the East River Greenway from 38th to 60th Streets.

The first leg of this multi-year project includes building an esplanade on the existing pilings in the East River from 53rd to 60th Streets -- something that I have been working on for many years with interested area residents.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that memorializes the agreement is a complicated and lengthy document.

Our world-class city deserves a world-class waterfront. This major step is a big win for the East Side. And it puts us on track to open our fabulous waterfront to all New Yorkers by completing a gorgeous green necklace for the city to enjoy and celebrate.

In Other Waterfront News.....

What's your vision for the existing East River esplanade? As you know, I've made it a priority to renovate the East River Esplanade north of 60th Street. To that end, I'm co-sponsoring a design competition called Reimagining the Waterfront with CIVITAS. The competition will generate ideas to transform our greenway and put it on par with the West Side.

Earlier this year I secured funding to begin renovating the esplanade's crumbling infrastructure. This contest is an opportunity to build on that foundation. Architects, urban planners, students, and artists can submit their plans by January 15, 2012. CIVITAS will award $5,000 to the first place winner, $3,000 for second, $2,000 for third and $100 for five honorable mentions. To learn more about the contest click here.

Help Plan Bike Sharing

NYCBikeShare is coming to a street near you next summer. Here's your chance to weigh in on the location of bike racks. The program will make 10,000 bikes available to members at 600 stations around Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Where should these stations be located? You can suggest a site to the Department of Transportation by clicking here. Bike sharing will change the way we get around our city, and we should all be part of shaping the program. There will also be a series of community meetings in the future to discuss which locations make sense - and which don't.

Medicare Enrollment Date Change
Medicare's Fall Open Enrollment Period is earlier this year—it begins on October 15th and ends on December 17th. This is the time when Medicare recipients can make unrestricted changes to their health and drug coverage plans.

Medicare offers many options, and now is the time to review them. Even if you are happy with your current coverage, it's good to take another look because plans change their costs and benefits every year. After Fall Open Enrollment ends there are limited opportunities for plan changes. To learn more about enrollment andfind answers to other Medicare questions, visit Medicare Interactive (www.medicareinteractive.org).
