FALL 2011 BRINGS NEW AND FABULOUS FASHION TO NEW YORK CITY, SAYS THE FAITH REPORT The quarterly retail overview by “Queen of Retail” Faith Hope Consolo provides a guide to new designers and retail concepts, as well as relocations, citywide
Fall 2011 will bring an exceptional and eclectic group of new and expanding retailers to New York City, says "Queen of Retail" Faith Hope Consolo in the newly published edition of her quarterly must-read publication "The Faith Report."
Coming to the city in the weeks and months ahead include U.S. and New York City debuts from a number of global chains, new units from local legends, and major expansions and relocations that continue to remake the city’s retail-scape.
"No retailer or designer can be considered an international force without a major flagship here in New York City, and we're seeing an extraordinary crop of newcomers this fall," Ms. Consolo says. "With all due respect to Milan, Paris and Los Angeles, New York is the fashion capital of the world."
Among the city debuts Ms. Consolo cites are: Marimekko's flagship store at 200 Fifth Avenue: Massimo Dutti's first concept store at 54th Street and Fifth Avenue; Maison Laduree at 864 Madison Avenue; Surface to Air at 27 Mercer Street and 25-year-old designer Alexander Berardi's first-ever boutique at 174 Prince Street.
"These chains are coming from around the world, and locating around the city, from the established Fifth and Madison Avenues to Soho, to the Lower East Side," Ms. Consolo observes. "Every neighborhood in the city will see something new and fabulous this fall."
Familiar stores also are expanding, perhaps most notably Century 21's second store in Manhattan at 1972 Broadway.
"Century 21 truly is one of the city's great retail names, given its mix of designer and better apparel for the entire family and home goods, all at a great value," Ms. Consolo observes. "The Upper West Side is a perfect location. After all, what more does a family need?"
A number of major names also are relocating and/or expanding. Paul & Shark will make its New York City debut at 667 Madison Avenue, replacing Michael Kors, even as Kors relocates to Steuben's former location on the Avenue. Similarly, Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry has departed the Upper East Side for 109 Mercer Street in Soho with Aaron Basha taking her spot at 685 Madison Avenue.
"The ability to relocate to adapt to changing needs is the hallmark of a healthy retail market," says Ms. Consolo, who represented Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry and Paul & Shark. "All of these fine retailers needed new or differently configured space, and we here at Prudential Douglas Elliman were happy to help them find new homes."
