READ THIS: Eloise at the Wedding Adapted by: Margaret McNamara / Illustrated by: Tammie Lyon / In the Style of: Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight
What little girl doesn't just love, love, love a bride? I cannot think of a single one and my nursery schooler is no exception! Watching Eloise fumble her way to a wedding invitation (as Nanny said, you must be invited) is just fabulous! It is so great that this book has even made it's way to show and tell. All her friends (and her teacher!) were swooning. No worries about ruining the book, it is a great size for little hands to turn the pages and tote along by themselves. Love it!
Eloise is delighted when she discovers there is a wedding taking place at The Plaza. She joyously observes the hustle and bustle as The Plaza prepares for a wedding ("cleaners cleaning, cooks cooking, waiters waiting")! After taking a bath, Nanny tells Eloise that if she is very good, she may see the bride. Eloise takes off in her bathrobe upon hearing this. She peeks inside the Grand Ballroom and finds a groom, but no bride. Then, she hears crying in the powder room and discovers...the bride! After discovering the bride is crying because her flower girl is sick, Eloise offers her services. Flower Girl Eloise saves the day! Yay, yay, yay!
I love weddings. When I showed this book to the small group of girls I was meeting in a book club, they squealed with excitement. They just talked and talked about going to weddings. It always makes me smile when I can see my students talking about a book, even before they start reading it. Once we started reading, they still couldn't keep still. We loved all of Eloise's antics and couldn't believe the surprise she got! Because we were so excited about the book, many of the girls wanted to know if they could go back to their seats to write a story about going to a wedding. Of course I said yes! Eloise gets an A+!
Every little girl loves to talk about weddings. So when I received Eloise at the Wedding, I knew this one would be hot for my daughter. The perfect story to entice her to practice her reading. Great illustration, big letters and repetitive words make this a winner. So let your child dive in and enjoy the surprises that await her. They will not be disappointed!
Eloise at The Wedding is a wonderful book. I think it has not only a great story but is also a wonderful learning tool. I think it helps teach children what a wedding is all about. Also, this book comes with a twist because we get to read about Eloise's adventure. This books are great for the new reader. A fun story that really brings the child into the book. As an adult I love the book too!
