Sotheby's Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary Art Sales Total $600 Million

Sotheby’s November auctions of Impressionist & Modern and Contemporary art concluded late yesterday in New York with an outstanding total of $599,835,000, approaching their pre-sale high estimate (est. $446.3/633 million). That overall result is the highest achieved by Sotheby’s since May 2008.

On Wednesday night, Sotheby’s set the highest total at any international auction house in 2011 for a single auction – the Contemporary Art Evening Auction that achieved an impressive $315,837,000 – and for a single work of art – Clyfford Still’s exquisite 1949-A-No. 1 that sold for $61.7 million.
