100 WOMEN IN HEDGE FUNDS PARTNERS WITH THE DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE IN SUPPORT OF SKILLFORCE SKILLFORCE TO BE THE BENEFICIARY OF THE 2012 LONDON GALA AND OTHER FUNDRAISING EVENTS
100 Women in Hedge Funds, a non-profit organization for professionals in the alternative investments industry, today announced that it will partner with SkillForce during the third year of The Duke of Cambridge's patronage of 100 Women in Hedge Funds' philanthropic initiatives. SkillForce is a leading education charity in the UK that works with 10,000 young people in 150 schools who are in danger of leaving school without skills or qualifications.
100 Women in Hedge Funds has a strong track record of supporting charities and has raised more than $25 million for philanthropic causes in the areas of women's and family health, education and mentoring. The Duke of Cambridge became patron of 100 Women in Hedge Funds' philanthropic initiatives in late 2009 and, starting in January 2010, 100 Women in Hedge Funds committed to focusing its philanthropic endeavours on three of The Duke's patronages: Centrepoint in 2010; the Child Bereavement Charity in 2011; and Skill Force in 2012.
Peter Cross, OBE, Chief Executive, SkillForce said: "At a time of unprecedented youth unemployment and economic turmoil, the generosity of 100 Women in Hedge Funds is both remarkable and vital. It will allow SkillForce to continue to make positive and permanent change to the lives of young people and provide employment opportunities for those leaving the Services."
Commenting on the announcement, Kristen Eshak Weldon, Chair of the London Board of 100 Women in Hedge Funds and Board Champion for Philanthropy, said: "We are thrilled to continue our partnership with The Duke of Cambridge and are very excited to work with SkillForce during our education-focused year. Over 35,000 young people leave school every year without qualifications, often finding work in low paying jobs and not pursuing further education or training. SkillForce has great results with 93% of their graduates going onto further education."
100 Women in Hedge Funds is planning a number of fundraising events for SkillForce during 2012, culminating in the 100 Women in Hedge Funds London Gala to be held in the autumn at a central London location (to be advised). About SkillForce: (www.skillforce.org)
SkillForce is a dynamic youth education charity that has been delivering alternative learning to Britain's most 'in need' young people for the past decade. Using the skills of ex-Service men and women, our instructors deliver courses to rebuild the self-esteem and confidence in our pupils enabling them to learn the life skills needed to create a positive future for themselves and make a constructive contribution to their own communities and society as a whole. SkillForce works in partnership with over 150 schools across England and Scotland to help more than 10,000 young people build their self-belief and achieve their academic potential. The courses SkillForce deliver significantly reduces the number of young people becoming Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) at 16. With their diverse life experiences and specialist skills, these instructors are excellent role models, something often lacking in young people's lives. Having served their country, these extraordinary men and women are now serving their local communities with phenomenal results.
